Do you need a licence?
Anyone born on or after January 1, 1988 must carry a Florida Boating Safety Education ID Card to operate a vessel powered by a motor of 10 horsepower or more. You are exempt if an adult 18 or older who holds the card is aboard and actively supervising your operation of the boat, not just riding along, if you hold an equivalent boating safety card from your home state, with photo ID, or if you pass the 25-question online exam for a temporary certificate valid for 90 days. Book a captained trip and the requirement does not apply to you at all, because the captain operates the boat, not you.
